Comma rules & privacy
Last updated: October 2026 · فارسی
Rules
- Harassment, threats, impersonation, spam and harmful content are not allowed.
- Sexual, degrading or abusive names, discussion titles and content are not allowed.
- Discussions support text, voice and titles shared from the list only; links are not allowed.
- Any profile or message can be reported; an account that breaks the rules is closed.
What we keep
- Account: your username, your password (only in hashed form), and your email if you add one.
- Profile: your name and, if you add them, a photo, city, birth date, gender and a few lines about yourself. A photo’s hidden data (such as location and phone model) is removed before it is stored.
- Lists: the films, series, music and books you add, what you've seen and what you love.
- Discussions: the messages and voice notes you send in discussions, and titles shared there from the list (with their note, whoever wrote it; the room's members see it), reports and blocks, and how far you have read each discussion and which ones you muted (those two are only for you). You can edit your messages or delete them for everyone (a host can also delete any in their own discussion); a reported message's words are kept for reviewing the report.
- Support: messages and pictures sent from Settings › Support; only the Comma team can read them, to reply. A picture’s hidden data (such as location and phone model) is removed before it is stored. A message from the support form on the sign-in page is kept with the email entered for up to a year, so the reply can be sent to it.
- Location: only if you turn it on. It is never shown to anyone and is used only to find people and discussions nearby.
- Stars: your balance and history, and the packs you buy in Cafe Bazaar. We never see card details; the payment happens entirely in Bazaar.
- Device: a push notification address, the device name for your list of signed-in devices, and overall usage counts to improve the app.
- To limit account creation, we derive a keyed code from the OS/app-scoped device identifier and count its active accounts. The original identifier is not stored. Deleted accounts do not count. Network addresses are not used for this limit.
- Errors: if the app runs into an error, the error text, the app version and the app's last few steps (screens opened and failed requests) are sent with nothing about your account or device, and deleted after 30 days.
Who sees what
- Other people in Comma can see your profile: name, photo, city, age (never your birth date), gender, a few lines about yourself and your labels. In privacy settings you can hide the things you like, your board and your discussions on it, and stay out of People suggestions.
- Your full list, location, email and Stars are not shown to anyone.
- Messages in a discussion are seen by that discussion's members.
- When you ask to join a discussion, its host sees your public profile (as your visibility settings allow) to accept or decline. Other members don't see requests. A request ends after 24 hours.
- When you share your profile or a discussion, anyone with the link sees a preview on the Comma website for 30 days: for a profile, your name, photo, bio, labels and a few favorites (if you show them); for a discussion, its title, description, member count and language. Your username, email, age, city and location are never in it.
Services we use
- For suggestions and labels, the titles in your lists (without your name or contact details) are sent to an AI service.
- On Android, the app asks Comma's server now and then in the background whether you have new notifications and shows them on the phone. Where the phone can receive push notifications, they arrive through Google's push service (Firebase). The lock-screen text only says what kind of thing is waiting, without names of people or discussions. It runs only with the notification permission, which the app asks for once and you can take back in the phone's settings. Battery saver can delay this check.
- Email codes go through an email service.
- Stars are bought through Cafe Bazaar.
- We don't sell your data and we don't show ads.
Deleting your account
- Settings › Delete account removes your profile, photo, lists, messages, support messages and pictures, notifications and devices.
- Star and purchase records are kept without your name or account, since a purchase is a real record.
